Erwin Pearl was an Austrian-born, New York–based jewellery designer whose work from the 1960s through the 1990s became closely associated with bold, sculptural gold-tone costume jewellery. Drawing on European design traditions and industrial metalwork techniques, his pieces are characterised by substantial weight, fluid interlocking forms, and finishes that closely resemble fine gold jewellery. Pearl’s designs were widely retailed in high-end department stores and are now regarded as emblematic of late 20th-century American fashion jewellery.
